I still remember...

Today is the third anniversary of the day my dad passed away.  Not sure that I'll ever forget this day.  I still have the last note that dad sent me stuck to my desk.  It's fading and hard to read, but here's a picture of it.

My dad's handwriting wasn't the neatest.  I've always liked to write and doodle, so when I was younger, I would translate my dad's handwriting because other people could not read it.
I have my dad to thank for raising me in church and of that I am so grateful.  Looking forward to the day when we can dance around the heavenly throne together.

PS Earlier this year I was reading something and realized Elvis died on this same day, but 30 years before my dad's passing.  Just sayin'

A wish come true

After the wasp incident last night, I had to do some repair to my marriage(since I laughed and all).  So we took a road trip and bought an iPad.  Yep, that's what my darling husband wants for his birthday and anniversary and Christmas and New Years and every holiday in between for the next year. 
Actually, he's been wanting one something fierce and I was afraid he'd buy it before I had the chance to even figure out how to go about getting one so when he found one on Craig's list for only $400.00 I said let's go.  Happy Birthday Robert!!!  (Even if it is a few weeks early)

He went to light the grill to cook dinner and out came a swarm of wasps.
Yeah, Baby, they built their nest in the bottom of our grill.
It was one of those moments when I wish I would have had the video recorder set to record...not that I even have one, but you know.


It was surreal and one of those moments that I couldn't help but laugh.  Sorry, honey!!!
I also learned something about Robert tonight...He's a real fraidy cat when it comes to wasps.  Poor guy!

Spinach Feta Bread

If you remember, we went to the Farmer's Market last Saturday.  The Harvest Bread Co was there giving out samples of their scrumptious breads.  We tasted the Spinach Feta and WOW!  I loved it and wanted a loaf, but it was $8.00.  Probably well worth it, but that's more than a days budget for food.  Within an hour or so of arriving home, my husband emailed me a couple recipes for Spinach Feta Bread.  I tried one of them out this week from Simple Daily Recipes which she took from the book, Artisan Bread in Five Minutes.  It sure tasted delicious!   Here's some pics of the finished product!

Back on July 4th, I posted about Wisconsin District Camp and showed two photos of me and my sister.  I had submitted them to the district for the Jubilee Celebration.  Now the photos have been published in the Wisconsin District News.  Check it out in the e-zine posted here.

It's that time of year...ADMIT

Each year the church I attend hosts a conference for ministers called ADMIT.  ADMIT stands for Apostolic Ministers in Training.  I head up the daycare portion of the event.  Last year, we had around 50 kids show up ages from toddlers thru 11 years old.  What a rowdy bunch!!! 
We have some of the best people a church could have and they volunteer their time to provide daycare for the conference attendees' children.
This year is no different.  We will have the children in our care 12+ hours each day.  Thank God it's only two and a half days.  By the time Friday night rolls around, I'm not sure who's more tired, the kids or the workers.  The kids play so hard, they wear themselves out.  Two years ago, the Friday afternoon playtime became blissful naptime because the kids were so tired.
We will have a treat this year from our Puppet Club.  The staff will be putting on a performance each night.  It will be a lot of fun for both the adults and kids.
Let the chaos begin!

Be-Mar Chapel

This afternoon I was in Bixby, the old part, just south of 151st Street.  I was driving down Armstrong when a little chapel caught my eye.  I had seen it one other time and said I need to come back and check it out.  This week being so busy and all, I really didn't have the time until I stopped to take a picture of the chapel and an older gentleman stepped out of the building next to it and said, "It looks a whole lot nicer inside" or something like that.  Who can turn down an invitation like that?  So I parked my car, and followed Red into the chapel.  Once inside, my ears heard the sweet melody of Elvis singing Amazing Grace and my eyes beheld a most wonderful work of love.  Red built the chapel for his wife on their 50th Wedding Anniversary.  They just celebrated their 59th anniversary last week.

You should stop by sometime and check out the chapel and Red's office next door.

Did I mention that Red is also a pilot who was stationed in Alaska back in the 1940s, the youngest person to stand at the north pole, built the first BIG FOOT, lived on an island for six months without electricity and running water, and has built his own casket that he uses for a desk...just to mention a few of the things Red has accomplished.

Working Woman

After two years of doing this and that and a whole lot of other stuff, I am a working woman again.  What a journey!  I have put in my first week at the office and so far, I'm loving it.  I'm hoping and praying it continues that way. 
More exciting news to follow as the month goes on.

Family Reunion

My mother's father's side of the family gets together for the annual family reunion on the first Sunday of August.  They've been doing it for the past 85 years.  Yep, they were doing it before it was popular and since before I was born or my mother was born.  As usual, I won't be there...one of the things that happens when you move away from the family.  I think it's been around 15 years since I attended.  They probably have a record of it in the minutes.  Out of the five siblings of my grandpa's family only he and one sister remain, but the attendance is usually around 150 people.  That's a lot of descendants! 
I've been to more family reunions for other families, than my own.  Interesting how that works.  Have you ever been to someone else's family reunion?  I love sharing in the traditions of family.  My family has Norwegian and German lineage(ssshhhhh, don't mention that I know what UffDa! means).  It also means that I know when the Norwegian Independence Day is celebrated, I have eaten lutefisk and lefsa, enjoy krumkake, rosettes and sunbuckle cookies and have an appreciation for the art of rosemaling, a dislike for trolls and vikings and have floated in a canoe race.  All things Norwegian means one of these days I must make a trip to Norway and cruise the fjords.  There is a town in Norway that shares my mother's maiden name.
