Look what showed up in my neighborhood

Do you think they could actually be setting up shop here?  I'll have more to spend since I won't have to drive to Tulsa to shop.

Christmas in....June?

Used to be they talked about Christmas in July, apparently it's been moved up to June.  Yep, in my daily trip to Hobby Lobby, I saw the start of "the holiday season".  Do you have your letter written to Santa, yet?  I can't imagine what this does to a procrastinator's psyche?!!!
I've barely dug out the Independence Day decor and they're wanting me to buy Christmas "stuff" already?  Just curious, what's the earliest you've ever purchased Christmas decor?

It's Bubbling It's Bubbling in my

COMODE!!!  I'm not singing, not shouting, since the bathroom floor's all wet.

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON IN MY BATHROOMS TODAY????!!!!!

Called the city...they'll send someone out right away.  Ok, thanks.  Meanwhile, I really, really need to GO!

I opened both exterior doors of the house to get the air flowing and remove the stench from the interior.  The toilets are continuing their game, just like a kid with a straw blowing bubbles in his drink.

Called the plumber brother and asked for a long distance diagnosis.  "Will the commodes flush?", he asks.  "I don't know. They are acting like they're alive and I really don't want to go in there," I said.  "It's probably the city's problem," he says nonchalantly.

FINALLY, the city plumber shows up..."We were just cleaning out the sewer down the street.  We must have dried them out real good.  Do you have 'anything' backing up or is it just blowing air?  I responded with the latter and got the typical look from him like I was some housewife that had nothing better to do than stir up trouble.  They instructed me to flush the toilets a few times and run water down the faucet and all should be well.

Somewhere in there, I called the hubby to let him know of the drama happening at home. He said, "What do you want me to do?  I'm busy here at work."  I guess I got my answer there.  :)  He's so lovable!

Things have died down and I finally got to GO!  Whew!!!  Wondering if I should have an out house installed for emergencies like this.

Happy Wednesday!!!

June Solstice

It's summertime!  How hot is it going to get?  We've already experienced 100+ degree weather.

Happy Birthday to my brother in law, Tim.  My baby sister's husband.
Probably can't see much with that one...here's a better one!

Powerful Song

What was I thinking

I've been walking around our neighborhood; it's flat and doesn't include much scenery.  How boring is that?!  There's a hill across the street.

So I started walking it today.

Can I please turn right?  I really don't want to go straight and it looks even worse if I go to the left!!!

The trek up the hill was worth it; this is the view at the top.  Where are the firemen when you need them?  It sure would feel good to open up that hydrant right about now.

There was a Scissor-tail Flycatcher giving me quite a show along the way.  She was swooping and landing on the fence line along this stretch of the road.  I couldn't get a good picture of her though.

Finally, made it around the loop, it's about a mile.

Then I spotted this oasis.  Please, someone, hold me back from doing a sprint hurdle right into that body of blue refreshment.
Oh wait!  That's someone's private property.

Evening Stroll Around the Neighborhood

So I'm out walking the dog tonight when a car drives by and Marmaduke practically jumps out the window, but the driver caught the dog's collar with half his body out the window.  It was quite a site.  One of those moments when you wish the camera was ready.
Meanwhile, Buster is going crazy trying to get closer to the Great Dane.  Chaos!  Makes you love walking in the neighborhood.  I practically lost my arm about a dozen times tonight.

Happy Birthday

to two special people, my brother-in-law, Dave, the hunter

and my niece, Lauren, aka my daughter.

Crazy Hot Weather

The influence of Pioneer Woman is taking a toll on me.  It's 90+ degrees and what recipe do I decide to try out?  Doughnuts!!!  Yep, Homemade Glazed Doughnuts!!!  MMMMmmmmm, good!

Now doughnuts have always seemed like a cold weather treat...considering the sweetness and the process of making them.  However, the weather didn't affect this endeavor one iota.

If you're in the area and want to stop by, I'll share with you.  But you can only have one.  :)

Flower Pot Gadget

Last year, I fell for a gadget at some festival we went to in the Spring. Yep, I can use that...I've got to have it. Well, it sat all year in my garage. Ever done something like that before? So spring rolled around this year and I had the "ultimatum" talk with myself.

The gadget is a pole like thing that fits in a container(didn't take a pic before I planted the stuff) then stack other containers on top, next, you plant some flowers in it and finally, you get something that looks like this. Well, at least this is how mine turned out. Theirs looked way better, but maybe by the end of the blooming season this one will give theirs some competition.
Ever bought a gadget that you just had to have, then didn't use it or gave it away?  Send me a comment about your gadget.

I'm Fine Thank You

Here is poem which preaches the practical benefit of positive thinking as we grow old!  Not that I'm this old, yet!  Shared this with a few of the "older" ladies at church and they related well.  :)

I'm Fine Thank You

There is nothing the matter with me
I'm as healthy as can be.
I have arthritis in both my knees
And when I talk, I talk with a wheeze,
My pulse is weak and my blood is thin,
But I'm awfully well for the shape I'm in. Arch supports I have for my feet,
Or I wouldn't be able to go on the street.
Sleep is denied me night after night,
But every morning I find I'm all right,
My memory is failing, my head's in a spin
But I'm awfully well for the shape I'm in.
The moral is this - as my tale I unfold,
That for you and me who are growing old,
It's better to say, "I'm fine" with a grin,
Than to let folks know the shape we're in.
How do I know that my youth is all spent?
Well my 'get up and go' has got up and went.
But I don't really mind when I think with a grin,
Of all the grand places 'my get up' has been.
Old age is golden, I've heard it said,
But sometimes I wonder as I get into bed,
With my ears in the drawer, my teeth in the cup,
My eyes on the table until I wake up.
Ere sleep overtakes me, I think to myself
Is there anything else I could lay on the shelf?
When I was young, my slippers were red;
I could kick my heels right over my head.
When I got older, my slippers were blue;
But still I could dance the whole night through.
But now I am old, my slippers are black;
I walk to the store and puff my way back.
I get up each day and dust off my wits,
And pick up the paper and read the 'obits'.
If my name is still missing, I know I'm not dead -
So I have a good breakfast and go back to bed.

Here they are....handpicked blueberries

Only picked one pound.  Lots of green berries, so I'll go back in a few days and pick again.

Blueberries

It's the time of year, in Oklahoma, for pickin' berries.  The strawberries are all picked, now it's time to pick blueberries.  Last year I missed them, so I'm looking forward to picking them this time around.  I'm heading to Buckets of Berries at 7:00 Saturday morning with a group of friends.  Come on out, if you can get the sandmen out of your eyes.
As a young girl, my sister and I would pick blueberries at a farm with two other girls that were sisters.  Usually, we ate more than we picked.  We got paid to pick the berries and had fun doing it because we were hanging with our friends.  Wonder why I like to work now?  I learned to enjoy work as a kid.
